We’re nearing the end of 2021, and what a year it’s been. Your child’s educators have continued to create magical teaching moments and memorable experiences in the midst of a pandemic, and now’s the time to show your gratitude for their unwavering commitment and care.

A few heartfelt words or a small gift will mean a lot, so here are 5 ways to say ‘Thanks” before the year is out.

1. Write a thank you card

A child-made or store-bought card is something to be displayed and treasured, and inside, there’s lots of space for a special message.

You might like to share particular things that your child loves about their educator, or ways they’ve supported your family through the year; and you can also add a personal touch by including your little one’s handprint, drawing or mini-message.

2. Assemble a self-care hamper

Educators spend every day caring for our kids, and it’s important that they care for themselves, too.

To help them do this, you could give your educator a luxurious hand cream or lip balm or fill a basket or gift bag with a few things that soothe the mind and spoil the body (such as a face mask, scented candle, selection of teas, good book and/or ‘medicinal’ bar of chocolate!)

3. Say ”Thanks” with flowers

Freesias, gerberas, chrysanthemums and lilies are all in season during November and December, and whether you pick them fresh or visit a florist, a bunch of flowers is always welcome.

An orchid in a pot is also a nice thought, and a vase of dyed banksia, dried hydrangeas or silk flowers will brighten up your educator’s home or office for months (and even years) to come.

4. Give them an experience

A voucher to see a movie, get a manicure or visit a local attraction will be much appreciated when the holidays roll around, and it’s easily slipped into a thank you card.

Alternatively, you and a few other families might want to contribute to a restaurant voucher for a memorable night out, or even chip in for a concert or theatre ticket, if you know your educator’s interests well.

5. Share something delicious

The way to a person’s heart is through their tummy, and a plate of homemade biscuits, a pot of jam or a Christmas pudding are all delicious ways to show your gratitude.

For added sweetness, your child can stamp out cookie shapes that spell ‘THANK YOU,’ or design full-colour food labels. And if your educator is famous for their love of a certain food or drink (e.g. caffeine), now’s the time to cater to their tastes!

That said, your heartfelt thanks is more important than any material item, and you don’t have to put a lot of hours, or dollars, into showing your gratitude.

Before your service breaks up for Christmas, just make sure you take the time to give your educator a big smile and thank them personally for their wonderful efforts in keeping your child safe, happy, busy and engaged in what’s been an ‘interesting’ year.

Take care, and we’ll see you in 2022!
