About BestStart Waihi Kindy

At BestStart Waihi Kindy (formerly Community Kindy Waihi), we believe our environment will enhance our tamariki to reach their full potential through play that is child directed and empowers them to make choices. We will help them develop the skills and knowledge needed to become a competent, confident life-long learner.

All children at BestStart Waihi Kindy participate in a variety of experiences such as art, music and movement, science, literacy and numeracy experiences, physical and health education, bi-cultural practices and ICT. As well as following the principles and strands of Te Whaariki, we also follow BestStart's Be School Ready initiative.

We value and acknowledge the input and support of whanau and community and consider it to be an integral element to the wellbeing of our centre whanau. Our team is trained and experienced and through open communication and consultation we will foster community relationships so our children and ourselves have awhinatanga (empathy and appreciation of the views of others) to build a strong bi-cultural community.

We demonstrate our value of community by being immersed in all community events such as Beach Hop, Matariki Celebrations and Gold Fest. We have great relationships through school transitions with the new entrant classrooms.

Through a caring nurturing environment we provide opportunities for children to explore at their own pace creatively. We provide a fun, positive and safe environment in which care and respect for themselves, others and papatuanuku is promoted.

Our routines are flexible and allow for children to set and maintain their individual rhythms. We provide delicious and nutritious morning and afternoon teas. Children’s kai and sleep times are when the children require them. We encourage children to self-help but are always near to offer assistance when they ask.

Our environment supports our tamariki to reach their full potential through play. Play is child directed and empowers them to make choices. We help them develop the skills and knowledge needed to become a competent, confident life-long learner.

Families say our qualified team are friendly and supportive. We build connections with family/whanau and the community and in turn, this supports children’s learning.
