BestStart South Road (formally TopKids South Road) offers three separate areas that cater for children’s varying ages and stages, allowing learning opportunities which reflect each individual child’s age and stage, allowing optimal learning.

Our small, community focused centre has developed responsive and reciprocal relationships with the families and whanau of the children. The centre is actively engaged in the community in which we serve and we demonstrate a strong relationship with the community as we go on regular excursions to our local library (story-time), Music and Movement sessions, inviting the community to centre events such as our Puanga celebrations (shared Hangi) and Kapahaka sessions just to name a few. Here at BestStart South Road we are passionate about providing for those in need. Our relationship with the local ‘Koha Shed’ allows us to do dress up days where families donate an item of food (when they can) that is used for children who require lunches while at school.

Our Infant Room - This room offers a small group size and a team of caring, dedicated and qualified kaiako/teachers who are passionate about infant education and care and incorporating the child’s home routine as much as possible within the centre. The environment is homely, warm and inviting and the curriculum focuses on establishing a relationship of trust and aroha between children, their whanau/family and the teachers. The infant room provides a daily communication book where information on your child’s daily routine is stored. This is one of the many ways in which the infant area strives to have great communication with the parents/whanau.

Our Toddler Room - Here we provide an indoor environment filled with many rich and quality learning experiences and opportunities for each and every individual need for your child. We have a great working relationship with the local Kura who come and visit us and teach Kapahaka. We promote the opportunity for child to have easy access to resource,s allowing them to make choices. This area opens out to an extra-large playground, big enough to kick a ball around and engage in other physical activities such as testing physical abilities and even a trampoline. We engage in gardening, gathering this produce for our onsite cooked meals.

Our Preschool Room - In this room we have a Be School Ready initiative for our preschool children which support your child transitioning from early childhood education to primary school. We have established great relationships with the local primary schools and have sound knowledge about each to assist parents in making the right choice for their child and been involved in network meetings. Our preschool promotes independence for our children, teachers work alongside all children to support and guide them to become a confident and capable lifelong learner. We have a strong focus on independence where teachers see themselves as a resource to help extend on skills and development and allow children to emerge and explore their environment. Resources used within the centre help promote literacy, numeracy, social skills and independence. We promote looking after our environment and recycling, highly respectful to all cultures and are well resourced including IT.
